Ancestor Walk

Photography series 02/17

Exhibited and workshop held at Embodies Cartographies at The Chapel

Curated by Fay Stevens for Fringe Arts Bath Festival

06/17

This photography series and workshop explores how gesture can shift perception of the material landscape. I wanted to explore ways to shift my idea of the city as made of inert matter to a city scape that could work itself on me, rather than inert, active..

Workshop invitation: 'In silence we will sew patterns onto linen cloths. Walking alone, participants will use charcoal to create rubbings on the city streets. With smartphones and cameras as a lens, we will communicate with the cityscape. All of our photos will be bought to the group. Together we would encounter a new way of being with the city’s aliveness.'

Switch to Witch

At The Side Room

Co-curated with Ilana Blumberg

06/17

An installation and performance piece.

Video of perdormence coming soon

This installation and performance piece was constructed as kind of laboratory. All the necessary tools for the experiments where there. The balls of eczema, wax anatomical votives, revolutionary posters and the appropriate texts. Audience members where invited to dissolve themselves. They gave themselves over. The limits of their bodies where transgressed and their idenities used for future experiments...

My Permeable Self

Sculptures in the studio

Wax, my hair, menstrual blood, cardboard and thread.

Exhibited at The Safe House

05/17

Group show, group curation

This piece investigates if the mediums of photography and sculpture can can create what I call an 'animist logic'. Can the relationship between the miniature sculptures and blown up photograph of them create a temporal relying, which result in a questioning of presence? The boundary between the two is contaminated with eczema wall paper and the materials used have an ambiguous status- is the symbolic nature of menstrual blood death or life?

Bitten

At The Crypt Gallergy

Curated by Alice Procter

04/17

Performance

Referencing tarot as a tool of decision making, this performance leaves a trace. A past trace that will thread into the present nowness and ripple out into the future. Through the audio and video work, the piece weaves together some visionary players, who place decision making within a wider mythological framework. Caroline Casey, a trickster astrologer is on voice, Maya Deren, an experimental film maker is on visuals and the legendary Genesis P-Orridge is on audio. By invoking these magical actors and remixing their creations into a container for this a performance on decision making, the piece calls for a recognition of the mythological ground from which we make all choices.

Wired

After time where my soles

Have been matched with concrete

To feel the web of the forest

Suffocates my hope.

The ancestors meet me.

My brothers and sisters too.

It’s a time where the shadows of leaves hold the secrets

Where the ripples in in the water said my name.

When I run to the river as an old friend.

And feel our song and hear

Our prayers and touch our tears.

Family, I stood by the pool at the center of our life circle.

I pulled a stick through the water and saw your dreams as phosphorus,

Swirling like dragons breath.

To feel the ashes of our meetings as the end of lineage

Rooted me deep as the opening bud

Searches for new life.

Lotus Land Collaboration

Watch here

In collaboration with Paul Kindersley and Philip Cornett for their project LOTUSLAND. 'LOTUSLAND will be a space of exploration for both artists and the public. LOTUSLAND is purpose-built to enable art as a social platform of enquiry regarding assimilation of queer culture within a neo-liberal, suburban society. LOTUSLAND is the result of a yearning for a queerness that is not yet here.'

I co-created a film about an estate agent who transformed from being a nature-hating developer into a protector of the land, thanks to an erotic dream with woodland creatures.

Loba Cards

Turn around in the Nipple Dome for Art Licks Weekend

Turn around in the Nipple Dome investigates personal and collective narratives through spontaneity and play. Florence Devereux and Taïs Bean have each created a tale, structured around seven archetypal figures, exploring how we come to know ourselves.
From these they made a set of cards, called the Loba Cards. The Loba Cards are not based on the Tarot but they nod to the ancient game of divination, with both games being played by pulling the cards to examine the present, look back at our pasts and ask questions about the future.
For Turn Around in the Nipple Dome the artists have displayed works that have gone into the making of the cards. The audience is invited to play with the Loba Cards to dig deeper into their personal narratives and come to know the art works through their own stories.

Taïs and Florence have invited Paul Kindersley to perform along side them during the Art Licks weekend
